False news on Twitter was about 70% more likely to be retweeted than true news and reached people roughly six times faster (MIT, 2018). Anger-triggering content is reshared at significantly higher rates. Combined with feelings of powerlessness, outrage becomes both emotionally functional and economically profitable. Understanding the mechanics is the first step to resisting them.
